BACKGROUND
Lulama Health Development Organization (LHDO) is situated in a rural area called Mhlava-welemu Village in Greater Giyani, Mopani District, and Limpopo Province in South Africa. Mhlava-welemu village is a rural area, which is under developed with 38% working force and 62% unemployment rate.
The Project was established after a need for the care and support of people that are infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and other chronic diseases was identified.
LHDO has been involved in the provision of Home community based services since 2002 and was registered with Department of Social Development as a NPO or Non – Profit Organisation in 2005
AIMS
To contribute by way of reducing the burden of HIV & AIDS and lifestyle diseases as well as mitigating related socio- economic challenges
To contribute to attainment of the National HIV&AIDS, Strategic Plan impact by educating communities on the available packages of treatment, care and support to 80% of HIV positive people and the recommended strategies for the 50% reduction of new HIV infection.
To contribute to the attainment of targets set by the department of Health in the fight against Tuberculosis
The Organization focuses much on the provision of comprehensive health services in order to promote, restore and maintain person’s maximum level of comfort, function and health.
OBJECTIVES
Provision of care and support to the chronically ill through home visits
To provide counseling and support to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDs
Quality life of Orphans and vulnerable Children and Families
To provide school health services for life orientation session on the topics prescribed by the national Department of Health, such as Prevention of STIs, HIV/AIDS and etc.
Eradication of Poverty and unemployment among the youth people through stipends
Our Work
Key Focus Area for Lulama Health Development Organisation
1. Home Community Based Care:
- The Organisation has 20 Community Health Workers operating in 3 Villages in Greater Giyani Municipality. The Community Health Workers Visit Families on a daily basis and provide comprehensive Palliative care and educational Services to the needy and community at large, focusing on the Family as a Whole. The Organisation is Directly working with the Department of Health in the Sub- District - District Level and the Local Clinic.
2. OVC support that include After School Care Progra:
- The Organisation has 7 Child and youth Care Workers who are supporting 1 Drop In Centre with 70 Childrens registered. The services rendered in the Drop in Centre include Psychosocial Support , Educational Support, HIV education and Awareness Campaign, access to basic needs , legal documents such as Birth Certificate and grants and Life orientation
